League of Legends Champions

If you're wondering how many champions there are in League of Legends, let's start by saying, there are a lot.

Currently, as of this writing, there are 151 champions to choose from!

League of Legends is a complex multiplayer game with a vast number of strategy elements. At the start of each game players alternate choosing which champions they will play that game. The reason for so many champions has to do with the many different roles and styles the game supports.

The sheer number of champions and the number of roles creates a different style of game every time you play. The number of combinations is wild to think about (you can do the math).

Riot, the company behind League of Legends releases new champions several times a year. They recently announced that they'll be doing 6 per year, one for each position.

The Number of LoL Champions by Class

League of Legends is a beautifully made game. The graphics are on point and the characters are complete with backstories and lore. When asking how many champions are in League of Legends it is important to also know that each champion can be classified into one of seven different classes:

  • Assasins (37)
  • Fighters (66)
  • Mages (59)
  • Marksmen (27)
  • Supports (32)
  • Tanks (43)

Something to note is that it's possible to play a champion in an off role. This is usually doable by alternate itemization and the like.

We'll go more in-depth on each in another post, but here's the summary:

Assassins are typically the most mobile melee champions in the game. They burst their opponents with damage then quickly get out of the fight due to their low defenses. However, some can also be incredibly durable because they're able at times to simply kill without any assistance from allies.
